How you can make money from online articles 1
One of the “quick-start” ways to make money online is writing articles and publishing them on a web site that pays you for them. Payments tend to be low, but two weeks ago I decided to investigate further.
I looked at several article sites, but chose two: Associated Content; and Constant Content.
Associated Content accepts articles (and photographs, illustrations and videos) and displays them to viewers free of charge on pages that contain adverts. To start with, you are paid $1.50 per thousand page views. Sometimes (if you are a US resident) you may receive an additional upfront payment if the editors really like your article. Payments are made monthly using PayPal.
Clearly, the more you promote your content the more money you will make, but I assume that Associated Content has controls in place to prevent abuse, such as visiting your own articles multiple times.
Articles submitted for publication need to comply with Associated Content’s submission guidelines, if they are to be accepted. You also need to agree to Associated Content’s Terms of Use, which give them very wide-ranging rights over your work. An editor reviews the first three articles that you submit before they are published. After that, if the first three articles were acceptable, when you submit an article it is published almost immediately.
On Thursday, 29 January 2009, I wrote an article with the title ‘Business Marketing in a Recession’. I signed up with Associated Content and submitted the article. The article was approved and published on Wednesday, 4 February, a little later than I had expected.
Advert for my article:
The difference between the businesses that thrive during this recession and those that die will be their marketing! Learn what you can do to make your business emerge from the recession stronger, more profitable and more valuable.
Please take a look (and help me get paid!).
Associated Content has “Calls for Content”. These are requests for submissions which you may accept if you wish, but I have not yet seen one which would be worthwhile researching, given the very small payouts.
Associated Content also provides each author with a profile page, which you can use to promote your own blog / web site. My profile page includes a link to this site, which not only helps to promote my site but also helps with my site’s search engine rankings.
Next week I will explain more about the other article site, Constant Content, which has a different (better?) payment method. It will be interesting to compare the two in a couple of month’s time.

money..its ok
I enjoyed your blog. Well done mate, this is a very useful topic for many people / businesses.
I had a look at these two sites a while back and would be interested in your results as I decided that the return didn’t justify the effort.
What I have been doing is experimenting with using free tools to generate some income. The reason for this is to develop a short course for newbies which I plan to distribute free of charge.
If there is merit in these two sites I would be delighted to add them to the list of tools available.
