AdSense Gold Rush

I have been using Google AdSense in a very small way almost since it was introduced some years ago. For most of the time I simply added adverts to “community” type websites that I look after simply to offset some of the cost of running the websites concerned.

More recently, I have used it more seriously, but not to the extent that I have developed specific websites to take advantage of it. I have found that there are right ways to implement Google AdSense and wrong ways. Small changes to a website can increase the website’s AdSense income one hundred fold.

Today, we seem to be experiencing an AdSense “gold rush”. Everybody seems to be developing AdSense websites purely to gain the income from AdSense. You see adverts stating that you can earn $9,000 per month from AdSense (I presume $9,000 is chosen because it takes you over the magic $100,000 per year).

When you look at these programmes in more detail they involve using Google Adwords to drive traffic to the website. Google must be laughing all the way to the bank. I’m not saying that these Google arbitrage methods do not work – they can be very profitable if you get your niche and approach right. The AdSense sites would work even better if they relied on “natural” search engine traffic.

The story goes that in the real gold rushes the people who got rich were those first on the scene and those who sold picks and shovels. If you are not already making money from such methods, why not give some serious consideration to supplying the “picks and shovels”. I am.
