WordPress UK Weather Observations Plugin update

From the emails that I am receiving, it seems that some of you are using my WordPress UK Weather Observations Plugin.

However, recently the BBC (who kindly provide the weather observations used by the plugin) changed the format of their website. The changes make it very difficult to find the UK location codes that are required for the plugin to work; the steps that I outlined in this blog and on the WordPress plugins website no longer apply.

As a quick fix I suggested to enquirers that they put:

  http://feeds.bbc.co.uk/weather/feeds/rss/obs/world/

in the BBC file directory box under advanced options and then get a location code from http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/ by searching for their location and then clicking on the RSS feed under the Latest Observations section, for example 7464 for Woolacombe (which actually gives Ilfracombe).

However, this was not ideal because the “world” feeds do not cover as many UK locations as the UK feeds.

I decided, therefore, to write some code to analyse all the UK feeds. This I have now done and I have produced a 36 page PDF booklet that contains an alphabetic listing of the 1,639 UK codes. In the UK list Woolacombe, for example, has its own code, 1901.

Why the BBC don’t publish such a list themselves is beyond me.

Excellent post , You’ve really hit the
nail on the head, I just don’t think that people quite get what you’re saying.
I don’t know how many individuals I’ve talked to concerning this very
thing in the past week, and they just can’t get it.

I as well am associated with carpet restoration and it is
a very good thing to see others this industry with like mentalities and positions
Never the less, Excellent post!

Self interest. I needed it and thought that others might too.
