WordPress UK Weather Observations plugin – update

My UK Weather Observations Plugin for WordPress is proving quite popular. I wish however that I had called it Weather Observations Plugin as it now works for locations worldwide.

In due course I will be releasing an update, but in the meantime I need to provide some information that may help some of you who are having problems with it.

Installing the plugin is quite straightforward – just follow the instructions and it should work. However, if having followed the instructions, you get the output “No current observations available” instead of the observations that you expected, your PHP installation is blocking access to the BBC data. Causes of this include safe mode being on – the solution is to turn it off – and allow_url_fopen set to Off – the solution is to set it to On.

The documentation will be updated to cover this in the next version. A future version may use Curl if it is available to work around the issue.
