WordPress 2.8.1 released

Yesterday, WordPress 2.8.1 was released.  WordPress 2.8.1 fixes many bugs and tightens security for plugin administration pages. A number of other changes have also been incorporated into the new release, mainly relating to internal “house keeping”.

I do not normally install new releases immediately, preferring to allow a few days or even weeks to allow them to settle down. However, under WordPress 2.8, the administration pages of certain plugins were able to be viewed by unprivileged users, resulting in information being leaked. Not all plugins were vulnerable to this problem, but the WordPress team advise upgrading to 2.8.1 to be safe; if you are using WordPress for your blog or website it seems sensible to take their advice as soon as possible.
