Some marketing tips

Last week I was sent some marketing tips for off-line businesses. Many of them apply equally to Internet Marketing businesses so I will share my versions of my top 10 with you:

10. Become ”famous” – If you are well known within your chosen niches or (much harder) more generally you will sell more. The same does not usually apply to “infamous”.

9. Referrals – Get your customers and contacts to refer “business” to you. Make this as easy as possible for them by providing everything they need to help you.

8. Freebies – Everyone loves a ”freebie” from time to time. Be as innovative as you can. Do something clever at Christmas – give away something that will last the whole year.

7. Keep customers and prospective customers informed – A free regular newsletter is a great marketing tool.

6. Conduct surveys – Surveys not only gain you valuable feedback but also make customers feel valued and give rise to cross-selling opportunities.

5. Be confident about your unique selling proposition (USP) – Have three reasons why your prospects should use you rather than one of your competitors and broadcast those reasons at every opportunity.

4. Build your double opt-in lists – The secret to generating ongoing income streams.

3. Look after existing customers – It is much easier to look after existing customers than to get new ones. Give them care and attention and there is no reason why they should not remain good customers for many years.

2. Look after your image – Make sure that your branding projects the right image. Don’t use ‘clipart’ for your logo, get professional help.

1. Invest in your websites – A good website is a must these days and with modern tools there is no excuse for a poor one.

0. Plan – Have a business plan that you keep up to date and measure your performance against it.

OK, so that’s 11 tips – a small example of over-delivery!
