Link Wheels
There has been quite a lot of discussion recently about Link Wheels and how effective they are.
What is a Link Wheel? Picture a wheel with spokes, like a wagon wheel. Such a wheel has a hub, a rim and several spokes linking the hub to the rim. In this analogy, your principal money-making web site is at the hub of the wheel. Where each of the spokes of the wheel meets the rim sits a “Web 2.0″ website. Each of the “Web 2.0″ websites links to the “hub” and to one of the adjacent “Web 2.0″ websites, so there are links around the rim and down the spokes. A simple Link Wheel typically has between five and nine spokes.
The purpose of the various links is to build back links to your money-making website. The links around the rim of the wheel build back links to the “Web 2.0″ websites thus further increasing their pages’ standings with the search engines.
The “Web 2.0″ websites typically used are those with good Google Page Rankings, for example, WordPress, Blogger, Squidoo, Live Journal, etc.
Until recently, Link Wheels were a great way to promote a money making website. However, some internet marketers now seem to believe that Google has become less keen on them and discounts the links or even punishes you for them. However, I have yet to see any evidence that this is the case so long as you are not too blatant with your promotion.
In conclusion, I believe that Link Wheels are still a useful tool, if used carefully.
