Why I hate this “free” offer

I have just received a FREE offer from a well-known internet marketer. I was not on the marketer’s mailing list – at least I do not remember ever signing up but I have taken a look at his products before so I may have had to provide an email address then.

However, my main complaint is that the FREE offer is, in my view, far from what I regard as free.

The offer is for a whole load of stuff that sounds great – it comes with the usual $$$$ value and sounds attractive. Of course, the goods are free but you need to provide your credit card details to pay the small (and it is relatively small - about $6) cost of postage.

But, the sting in the tail is that in the small print you are signing up to a monthly membership scheme. You get two months free after which it is $60 per month. Of course, after the two free months you can opt out, if you remember.

I do not object to monthly membership schemes; if you can make them work they can be very lucrative, but I think that this is a rather underhand method of promoting one and I suggest that you do not use it.
